This shows that virtual PFN 0 from process x will be mapped to PFN 1 physical memory. The information contained in each member of the page table, including virtual PFN, physical PFN, and information about page access from that page.

As for how to translate virtual addresses to physical addresses, the CPU must first handle the PFN virtual address and its offset in the virtual page. After that, it will look for the page table and members that match the virtual PFN which is included as a physical PFN.

The physical PFN will be taken and multiplied by the page size so that the address of the base page in physical memory can be obtained. Finally, the CPU will add an offset to the required instruction or data, so that virtual memory can be mapped to physical pages in a random order.

The term Virtual memory is also often referred to as the pagefile. This pagefile will generally be saved with the .SYS extension. whose storage directory is on the C partition of your computer. In conclusion, Virtual Memory can speed up computer performance by reducing the RAM load.

  • After entering the computer properties, scroll down until you find the bottom option and click on Advanced System Settings to enter the menu.
  • After that, you will go to the System Properties window with various sub menus in it.
  • In the System Properties window, click the Advanced tab. Look in the Performance section at the very top, then click the Settings button to enter Performance Options.
  • In the Performance Options window, click the Advanced tab. In the Processor Scheduling section, select the Program option. In the Virtual memory menu at the bottom, click the Change button.
  • The next way to set Windows virtual memory, you have to change the size of the virtual memory in Windows according to your needs. But first, make sure that the section to be customized is located on drive C. Therefore, make sure the cursor has highlighted the Drive C option in the column. Then after that select Custom Size.
  • At the custome size stage, select the Initial Size value which will be the size value of our virtual memory. The value used can be in accordance with the size of the RAM the device has.
